Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
